from one extreme to another

right then...get this-start of april.....snow, end of april.....heatwave- hooray it really is summer then- a quick trip to sourton tor on a sunday last month looked to be a good days bouldering
until we saw the view from just outside okehampton- it seemed to be covered in white stuff
and lots of it- further inspection showed it to be cold and frosty (just like the stuff that covers
food when mum has been to iceland) we watched people sliding on it, chucking it, eating it
(avoid the yellow variety though) and generally having a real fun time in it-”I wonder” said nic
“if we could climb in it?”

after a walk of about twenty minutes, we were alone in pure, untrodden white stuff- “cool”
said nic, yes...it was, especially on the hands- we made our way around trying to fit routes
to guidebook descriptions and did some great problems with an alpine flavour

well it wasn’t long before we got to the snowball chucking- scores were low on full body
hits until I managed to park one right in nic’s open pocket- this stood as “shot of the
competition” up to the point when nic cut me off at the pass, sneaked up behind for a sly
rear attack and planted one in the central face area with such force, I had an ice cream
headache for the next twenty minutes.......fun!

the end of the month saw lots of sun so we decided to take luis to irishmans wall with an
introduction to dartmoor granite- we all had some good climbs, I finally got up “white spider
directissma”, luis found a green metallic toy with yellow writing on it (avoid any metal things
that have a tendancy to go BANG) and nic aced the “meaders mutterings” variation

above- (comedy photo) luis with a vice like grip of death as he topped out in a five points of
contact kind of way on “meaders mutterings” smile for the camera..............F*** RIGHT OFF!
